Let's Eat To Live | Our Story

Rooted in Woodlawn, Built with Purpose

Let's Eat To Live is a Black woman-owned, halal soul food restaurant on Chicago's South Side — founded on the belief that the community deserves excellent food and a real place to gather around it.

A Second Restaurant, A Bigger Table

Carmella Coq'mard Muhammad is a South Shore native who built her first restaurant, The Foodie's Spot, into a neighborhood staple before turning her attention to Woodlawn. She opened Let's Eat To Live at 621 East 67th Street in 2024 — a sit-down cultural dining experience that the South Side had been waiting for. People over profit reflects Let's Eat To Live’s community-focused approach and commitment to prioritizing the people it serves.

The name is a commitment: food should nourish the body, not compromise it. Every dish is halal and sourced from local, farm-to-table suppliers — soul food depth and seasoning, built on ingredients chosen with intention.
